Jyväskylä International Postcrossing Meeting

Welcome to Jyväskylä!
After the successful meetups in Helsinki (2016) and Tampere (2017), it’s time to celebrate the Finnish postcrossing culture internationally in Jyväskylä, a city known for its active postcrossing enthusiasts, Harjun Paperi – famous paper shop, Karto – the postcard factory, and a vibrant local postcrossing culture.
On Friday, we’ll enjoy the Alvar Aalto – e la natura – architectural cruise. Welcome to experience the Alvar Aalto Cruise on Lake Päijänne. The most well known Finnish architect Alvar Aalto used to spend his time in the beautiful Säynätsalo area where he also used to have his summer house – designed by himself of course. During this trip you’ll get known with Alvar Aalto’s history and the Säynätasalo Town hall which is designed by Aalto. Did you know that Alvar Aalto has often travelled to Säynätsalo by the same boat s/s Suomi? The genuine steam boat s/s Suomi departs from Jyväskylä harbour and arrives to Säynätsalo dock where the guide is waiting for us. Together with the guide we’ll find our way to the Säynätsalo Town Hall where the guide will tell us more about Aalto’s unique design. After the tour we’ll head back to Jyväskylä by bus. After the tour, there is a chance to enjoy coffee in the cafe with Alvar’s cake. When we return to Jyväskylä, we will continue to enjoy the evening with dinner and boosting the mood for Saturday’s big postcrossing meetup.
On Saturday, we will take a visit to Karto – the postcard publishing house, after which we will visit a famous paper shop – Harjun Paperi. In the afternoon we will start our big postcrossing meetup in the idyllic Asemaravintola Restaurant, which is located in the Old Railway Station in the middle of Jyväskylä. The restaurant is reserved for our whole group for the rest of the day. We will enjoy a delicious dinner buffet, after which we spend all day writing the cards.
The Sunday program will be fine-tuned in June, but at least there is a farewell dinner in the early afternoon.

Meetup Postcards
This year, official meetup postcards are designed by illustrator Jonna Markkula, who also lives herself in Jyväskylä.
There will be two different cards available, which are sold in sets of 10 cards (5 + 5) for 7€/set.

The program on Sunday is paid by every participant themselves on site.
The program on Satuday costs 39,50€ for Finnish Postcrossing Friends Association members and international guests. For others, the fee is 49,50€.
